WHAT'S YOUR NEWS?
LAUNCHES AS CANADA’S ONLY NEWS SHOW FOR PRE-SCHOOLERS

“What’s Your News?,” a ground-breaking series that  brings pre-school children THEIR news, is set to launch on Kids’ CBC on November 30th, 2009 at 9:30am.

The 26 half hour episodes focus on children’s experiences and interests, showing them a world filled with other children whose news is true to their own experience.  “Our top story today: Kallon can kick a ball really far!”… “This just in – Maya can play the piano with both hands!”   “Breaking News: Zander has lost his slipper sock!”   As co-creator Jocelyn Stevenson says, “It’s news that celebrates the experience of just being a child!”

“What’s Your News?” is a show populated by real-life kids who have news. And the reporters are a crew of engaging entertaining and funny Ants!

Based on real news from real children, each episode is scripted to follow a major breaking news story and presents at least one other item of breaking news. There are interviews with child experts – that is, experts who are children - special reports, traffic updates and weather.  At the end of every episode, other children briefly present their own news.

“What’s Your News?” was produced using a technologically innovative combination of live action, motion capture, CG and performed animation by the UK’s TT Animation and Canada’s Lenz Entertainment.   The show is a reunion of sorts for producers Jocelyn Stevenson (UK) and Lawrence S. Mirkin (Canada) who first worked together on Jim Henson’s “Fraggle Rock” for which the CBC was the host broadcaster.   “What’s Your News?” is a co-venture between the UK’s TT Animation and Canada’s Lenz Entertainment.

“We are really excited about this series because there is nothing like it in terms of children’s programming here in Canada,” says Jack Lenz, Executive Producer.  Adds Kim Wilson, Head of Children and Youth Programming at the CBC, “We love that this show celebrates the day to day events that are so important to preschoolers. News is such a big part of what the CBC does, and at a time when adult news is getting refreshed to meet the needs of their audience, it’s perfect timing for us to be launching a kids news show that our audience will love!”
